How He Asked... My Engagement Story.. Ballast Point Park- Tampa, FL

Zachary always has surprises… from sushi to a day trip. You just never really know what kind of surprise you’re going to get. Friday night he said to me, “We have to wake up early tomorrow and were leaving at 8, 8:30 at the latest.” He gave me a 1/2 hour because he knows Im always late. I asked a million questions as usual, mostly about how I should prepare myself. Should I dress up and wear makeup? Am I gonna get wet? Should I be wearing a bathing suit? Is this a fancy event? What should I be wearing? Will it be dressy enough to wear wedges? Or is this more of a sandal event? Or is this a super active surprise? No answer, of course.
I woke up early the next morning and started getting ready. 8:30 rolls around and I still wasnt quite ready to go - but away we went. I finished getting ready on the way up.
Zach gave me the address to a Bob Evans in Tampa and the whole way up to I kept questioning why we were meeting up with some stranger in Tampa and fussing at my makeup in the tiny car mirror. As we were driving he got a phone call - I didnt pay it any mind. He said it was the guy we were meeting. “Were going to be meeting him somewhere else,” and he gave me a new address to put into the gps, “5300 Interbay Blvd, Tampa, FL. We finally arrive to a Ballast Point Park. I looked around and said Zach, Im really concerned about this guy that were meeting. Theres not many people in this park, and we dont even know who this is. How do you know this is not a weirdo thats gonna try and hurt us or take our money? Or worse take SUSHI (my car)?! He laughed at me and said Stop it, were gonna be fine. I just started praying.
As I continue fidgeting with my eyelashes he says I think you can see the skyline from here but its hard to see with all the clouds. It was a rainy day, it rained the whole ride up. As were sitting there just waiting for this guy to get there, Zachary turns to me and asks The rain slowed down a little bit, do you want to walk to the end of the pier while were waiting for that him? Hes going to call when he gets here. I said Sure, that sounds fine to me.

As we walk towards the pier, a cold breeze makes me hold closer onto Zachs arm. As we walk down I try to cover my hair and face with my hoodie and shiver under the cool sprinkle. Before stepping onto the pier we stopped, Zach patiently waiting for me to take a picture of the the scenery, it looked beautiful- glimmering from the rain drops. There are only 2 other people on here, two middle-aged men fishing. As we walk to the end of the pier, the breeze picks up. Theres a pavilion up ahead to shelter us from the drizzling rain. As we stand there, I look out onto the horizon and I notice the Tampa skyline. Through the haze and light rain - I think to myself how much I love this weather, and cuddle into Zach. I looked up at him as he held me to keep me warm and asked So, what are we doing today? Are you finally going to tell me? Zach looks down at me and a mischievous smile creeps onto his face and he goes on to tell me that we were supposed to go on a hot air balloon ride today but the weather resulted in a change of his plans. But I know I dont want to wait any longer. Arlene, I love you so much, will you do me the honor
I watched him drop down to one knee and thinking this was Zachary being his usual jokester self I laughed and said Get up! What are you doing?! He stayed and continued ..of letting me take you as my wife? My laughter turned into a nervous laugh and I turned around to see if I was the only one seeing this craziness - What are you doing? he asked. I turned back to him and looked at the box that held a beautiful solitaire diamond ring and then up to his handsome face and said Is this for real?! He laughed Yes, this is for real! I pulled him up closer to me and I started to shake and said Babe. Stop. Is this for real?! Again he laughed and said Yes, what do you think?! Well? I looked at him and said Of course! And as I watched him put the ring on my finger, I just couldnt wait to hug him and kiss him and yet I felt like this was all a dream and I had to look into his eyes to see if I could interpret the reality of the situation.

As I continue to process the reality of the situation he wears the biggest smile and laughs at me, saying Babe, are you okay? Look at you! I cant help but giggle nervously as well but he laughs and it wears my nerves down. We make it back to the car and I keep looking at the ring that sits on my left hand I just keep thinking to myself Is this really for real life? I try to hide the fact that I just keep staring at this ring from Zach but hes watching me intentlyloving every moment of it because Im at a loss for words aside from Is this for real? and he just keeps giggling at me.

The rest of that day flies by, my family surprised me and met us at a restaurant along with Zacharys parents and sister. Im in a blur of shock, disbelief, and happiness. And in my head I find myself thinking Oh my God, thank you! Is this for real, though? over and over again but I know...this is definitely for real.

...and it was "for real"!  Arlene & Zach tied the knot on November 7th, 2015 at a beautiful ceremony at First United Methodist Church, Punta Gorda!

Wishing you a lifetime of happiness,
Marie

How He Asked... My Engagement Story- Rocky Mountains- Colorado Engagement

Ryan and I first met at a Bible study at a local church, but after meeting for the first time we didn’t see each other again until a few months later when a mutual friend had a going away party at their house. During the party I kept staring at this handsome man hoping that he wouldn’t catch me looking at him. As the party went on, somehow we got into a short conversation and were able to exchange names, but that was all we exchanged, until a few weeks later at another mutual friends going away party when Ryan came up to me and invited me to go rock climbing. After saying yes Ryan proceeded to ask me for my number and about a week later we went rock climbing with some of our friends. Not long after going rock climbing, Ryan and I went out on our first date where he left such a great impression on me. From his goofy personality during dinner, to the boldness he had throughout the night, and to him sharing where he was in his relationship with Christ, I knew I was definitely attracted to him and wanted to keep dating him.

About a month went by of growing our friendship deeper by hanging out with friends and going on dates, before Ryan asked me to officially be his girlfriend. As time went on we kept pursuing Christ together and serving one another in our day-to-day life. We kept creating memories together, getting to know each other, and of course falling in love with one another through going out on dates and sharing our lives with one another. Little did we know that almost a year had passed since Ryan had asked me to be his girlfriend.

As our one-year anniversary was approaching, Ryan and I had plane tickets to go out to Colorado for about a week to go visit one of my best friends and be a part of her wedding. Not only were we excited to take a trip together, and see my friend get married, but we were also excited to rock climb and go hiking in such a beautiful state. So the second day we were in Colorado we planned to go for a sunrise hike in the Estes Mountain at Rocky Mountain National Park. We got up that morning, got ready, and headed to Bear Lake where we got to witness the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen (see below).

Not long after we got there and started hiking on the trail we decided to go sit down on a bench that overlooked the lake. As I was sitting there taking a photo, Ryan reached into his backpack and told me I needed to stand up and face him. (Excursus: When Ryan and I first started dating he would come over to my house and at times we would both end up doing the dishes. Well we both hated the cheap dish soap my mom would purchase from the Dollar Store because it would not get sudsy. So one evening Ryan came over to my house and brought with him three big bottle of Dawn dish soap. Soon after we acquired the three bottles, Ryan began to tell my mom and I that by the time the third bottle of Dawn dish soap was gone Ryan and I would be either engaged or married. At the time of this trip the third bottle was more than half way gone.)

Now back to the story… So I stood up and turned to face Ryan and as I did that he got down on his right knee, held out an empty bottle of dawn dish soap and asked me if I would marry him! I stood there shocked, excited, and a little confused as to why I was holding an empty bottle of dish soap instead of a ring. Don’t get me wrong, I knew what the dish soap symbolized but I was still a little confused. “Did the ring not get shipped in time? Did it not make it on the airplane? Is it in the empty soap bottle?,” I thought to myself as I stood there staring at the man I would soon call my groom.

Then Ryan reached into his bag while saying “don’t worry I have a ring,” and he pulled out the most beautiful ring I have ever laid eyes on. He then asked me again if I would marry him, this time holding the ring in his hand, and with tears of joy I muttered, “Of course I will!” I gave Ryan a hug and a kiss and then he slipped the ring on my finger. We then enjoyed the rest of the morning walking around and doing an engagement shoot with a local photographer, Aldabella Photography, that Ryan hired and had been planning with for about a month. This engagement was definitely way better than I had ever dreamed of and I couldn’t ask for a better person to spend the rest of my life with.

"How He Asked"- My Engagement Story- Maddy & Jeremy

THE BEGINNING
~~
I started working at McDonald's in October of 2012. Jeremy had already been working there for quite some time. He was very quiet and shy which of course made me interested in trying to get to know him. When I started working there I was seeing someone but that soon ended and Jeremy did not let but a week pass before he started to open up to me and get to know me. We joked around all the time at work and quickly began hanging out outside of work. March 26, 2013 Jeremy met my parents and took me to see Identity Theft, where he asked me to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history.

"WILL YOU..."
~~
Disney is like a HUGE deal to me. We went to celebrate our first year anniversary in 2014 and it has basically all I had been able to talk about since. Around Christmas time of 2014 my sister-in-law (who works for Disney Cruise line) asked Jeremy and I if we would like to come watch the kids for a day and then she would get us into a park the next day. Well of course I said yes! Not only did I get to hang out with some of my favorite kids but then I got to go to my favorite place with my favorite man. (Yes,that is a lot of favorites). So January 23, 2015 Jeremy met me at my apartment after I got off work and we headed up to Orlando. On the way up we talked about getting married, just like we have many times before, and I got the same "I just want to be in school" answer as always. But I respected that and I trusted God had an awesome plan. In all honesty I thought "He is insane for not taking this opportunity, its Disney, its the happiest place in the world", but I didn't want to ruin this trip so I forgot about it and just enjoyed our time.

All day Saturday I saw Jeremy on his phone more than usual but again I thought I was just reading into things so I ignored it. I woke up Sunday morning, more than ready for this day to begin, not knowing it would be one of the most important days of my life. I got all of my Little Mermaid get-up on and we headed out. We got there as early as possible, Katie and Allegra came along so we could all ride the Mine Train together, it was all of our first times. After the ride Katie and Allegra left to ride Space Mountain and then they were "leaving". The morning seemed to go on forever, which was a good thing because little did I know the rest of the day would fly. I have to be honest I still had a little hope that he would pop the question, but he had me leading the way the whole time so I again brushed it off and enjoyed my time, he seemed relaxed and acting like it was just any other day.

Okay, let me get to the good part...
We had lunch and then I wanted to go look at one of the shops up towards the front, so we headed up that way. This shop has absolutely everything Disney and I could easily spend on hour in it. About five minutes after going in Jeremy told me he NEEDED to throw away his drink NOW. So of course I was like "you can wait" and he argued that he had to do it right then. So I was like okay...? and we headed out the store to throw away the drink. He then said, since we are already out of there why don't we go take a picture near the castle (which we both wanted to do because our last pictures weren't very good). So we headed up there and we started getting super close and I told him we were getting too close but he insisted we go right up to the castle and I didn't think it was worth a fight so I just went along with it. We were about 10 yards from the castle and I look over and next thing I know I'm asking him why my mom is there. He insists it isn't her but I knew it was. He kept pulling me along trying to block me from seeing her, but I knew something was up.

This part is kind of fuzzy but next thing I know Jeremy is down on one knee holding out the most gorgeous ring asking me to marry him. All I remember hearing was "Will you.." and he started to look like he was going to pass out so I grabbed him and held him and at that moment, though we were surrounded by hundreds of people, it felt like it was just me and him. In come my parents, his parents, and my sister-in-law and niece who never left the park apparently. Later that day he told me what he planned on saying to me and we spent the day with out parents riding rides and enjoying the shows. It was beyond magical and now January 25 with always be a date near and dear to my heart.
