Grecian Weddings

Grecian Weddings

To purify themselves, Ancient Greek women would bath in a river or fountain that was considered sacred to the goddess of wedlock.  Now a days, both the hands and feet are washed to insure purity.

Greek weddings usually take place in the morning, most commonly after morning liturgy (public worship), because the bride and groom fast before the ceremony.  The Betrothal (exchanging of rings) and the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony (crowning) are the two most important parts of an Eastern Orthodox Wedding.  The crowns may be a wreath of flowers or an actual crown made of gold with red velvet and jewels.

Bread is dipped into wine and given to the bride and groom in ancient Greek tradition.  Brides in Greece also believe that sugar tucked into their wedding gloves will sweeten their marriage.

We can look for stunning shades of blues and whites to encompass the Grecian theme.  From midnight blue to turquoise to pale blue we can anticipate shades that will be accented with golds and marble tones when it comes to the silverware, stationary, cakes and jewelry.

Visioning many beautiful beach weddings to take a new twist in 2014.
