Boot in your ear?!

You guessed it... today we are talking about Boutonnieres!   French for buttonhole, which is what the British call their boutonnieres,  typically a single flower, bloom or bud worn by a gentlemen for special occasions such as homecomings, proms, & of course weddings.
In the past men wore the boutonnieres more frequently.  Now a days a lapel pin is commonly worn for everyday use and special custom boutonnieres are created for elite occasions.
Commonly worn on the left side of the lapel, boutonnieres used to be placed through the buttonhole and secured with a loop in the back of the lapel.   Now a days floral suppliers and designers a like have created a whole new level of boutonniere ingenuity.
From the many different filler flowers and greenery that can embellish a boutonniere customizing them to embody your wedding vision can be a lot of fun.
Who says the guy has to have a boring old buttonhole?
Not in this day and age!
Incorporating ribbon and/or wire wrapping around the stem now allows for additional creativity in making a boutonniere be unique.  Sparkly & Iridescent leaves are available to add glitz.

From inserting footballs, charms, fishing lures, starfish, seashells or creating the entire boutonniere in a bullet shell casing a talented floral designer can accommodate any clever idea.

There always comes that classic dilemma of no one ever knowing how to secure on that darn boutonniere!  More commonly than not in viewing wedding photography you see a boutonniere about to make a nose dive right off the suit or tuxedo!!

Several securing options have now been enlisted.  Lets check them out:

The magnetic holder allows the floral designer to create a piece that fits perfectly inside.

Magnetic strips allow the same look and feel as a traditional boutonniere with the easy of magnetization.

Lastly, the Easy-Pin.  One of the new favorites in the floral wedding trends.  The ultimate secure push through pin mechanism comes with two prongs and a rubber backing.
